LifeScan, specialising in the production of blood glucose monitoring systems and digital diabetes management solutions, has announced the launch of a localised production of OneTouch® glucose meter test strips using Pharmstandard-Leksredstva production facilities in Kursk.

LifeScan expanded production in Kursk by fully transferring a package of critical technological and laboratory operations and maximising the share of Russian materials in its final products. The localised production will reduce the costs, and the regions will be able to provide more patients in need with high-quality means of self-monitoring of blood glucose levels, as well as increase the amount of purchased test strips.

Pharmstandard-Leksredstva will produce about 4.5 million packs of test strips per year to satisfy the needs of patients with diabetes both in Russia and in the EAEU countries.

The quality of the test strips produced at the Russian plant is fully consistent with the quality of their production at LifeScan's enterprise in Inverness (Scotland, UK). Local production of test strips complies with the GMP standard, Pharmstandard-Leksredstva is certified in accordance with global LifeScan quality standards and has passed an internal audit, and Pharmstandard-Leksredstva plant professionals have been trained at the LifeScan production site in Scotland. Moreover, the new production site has already been entered into the registration certificates of OneTouch® test strips, and also received the ST-1 certificate confirming that the Russian Federation is the country of origin of this product. Thus, the production of test strips which are absolutely identical in quality and accuracy will be carried out in Kursk.

"Localisation of production will increase the availability of LifeScan products for Russian patients who need test strips for self-monitoring and improving the effectiveness of therapy. We are very pleased that our medical devices will be able to help even more patients prevent the development of complications due to diabetes, as well as the disability. In addition, this is a significant stage in the development of the Company's business in Russia. We will continue to invest by transferring advanced technologies to our Russian partners," said Yvette Salib, CEO, LifeScan Russia.

LifeScan Russia, in partnership with Pharmstandard, will localise the production of self-monitoring systems for patients with diabetes mellitus: the first stage of the commercial production of OneTouch® glucose meter test strips was launched at the end of 2015 at the Pharmstandard-UfaVita plant in the Republic of Bashkortostan. Then Pharmstandard-Leksredstva in Kursk launched the first automated line for the production of finished products of various OneTouch® platforms based on imported materials and components. Now, LifeScan is expanding production again by transferring a package of the most important technological and laboratory operations to Russian professionals and maximising the share of Russian materials in the final products at the production facilities of Pharmstandard-Leksredstva.
