In collaboration with colleagues from Belgorod State University, Pharmstandard, the university’s industrial partner, presented promising projects for the development of medicinal products.

In October, a multimedia roundtable discussion entitled “New Materials for Quality of Life. Scientists’ developments in the interests of technological leadership” was held via teleconference connecting Moscow and Belgorod. The event took place at the press centre of MIA Rossiya Segodnya and the media centre of Belgorod State University (BelSU).

Speaking at the roundtable discussion, Alexander Obukhov, Director of the Medical Department of JSC Pharmstandard, noted the successful collaboration with leading scientific departments of the Belgorod State University (NRU BelSU). This partnership has resulted in the completion of over 70 joint projects and the registration of 26 medicinal products.

Currently, preclinical development of a new medicinal product to combat von Willebrand disease is underway in collaboration with scientists from NRU BelSU. This hereditary disease requires lifelong treatment. Patients with absent or impaired activity of von Willebrand factor — a crucial blood clotting factor — develop spontaneous, often prolonged, and life-threatening haemorrhages.

“The ongoing research is quite extensive and complex. Since human plasma protein is foreign to animals, it necessitates a highly rigorous approach. We are extremely grateful to our colleagues from NRU BelSU, who have the necessary facilities and capabilities to conduct this research,” noted Alexander Obukhov.

Highlighting the strategic importance of developing еру Russia’s pharmaceutical industry, Alexander Obukhov pointed to the need to further strengthen the scientific capabilities of the domestic pharmaceutical sector.
